Place value beyond ten thousands |
Start the lesson today at your desk. You will need 8 post it notes for each pair to share. Write one of these numbers on each post it note: 5, 2, 3, 0, 8, 9, 4, 7. You will need your graph book to write down your answers. The title is "Place Value"
Warm Up:
We will go through each question together and your teacher will give you a set short amount of time to do each question, be prepared to share.

I Do:
When we leave a space, it's also a cue for our brain that we need to say a place value word. E.g. 3 456 we say three thousand (say thousand where the space is), four hundred and fifty six.
In these examples, where the space is, is where I say "thousand". Lets practise this together.

Sit on the mat with a partner. Click on the link and set the numbers from 9 000 to 99 999. The teacher will display a number. Darker haired person whispers it to their partner, teacher checks for understanding. Next number is selected, lighter haired person whispers it to their partner, teacher checks for understanding.
