When I was really young, my dentists hated me because I never wanted to brush my teeth. That minty taste was downright disgusting to me, and two or three minutes was far too long for my attention span. But then, at 10 years old, I had to have a slew of cavities filled at once and I was not given enough novocaine. I've been a stickler for clean teeth ever since just to avoid that ever happening again. But no matter how well I stick to my twice-daily dental routine (with flossing!), my dentist can always pinpoint spots I need to brush better. So, being as extra and bullheaded as I am, I upgraded my old-school brush to the Oral-B iO electric toothbrush — undoubtedly, doctor Lee is going to be blown away at my next appointment.
This is not your average electric toothbrush — not by a long shot. There's a reason the whole kit — including the brush, three replaceable brush heads, a charger, and a travel case — costs a whopping $300. The iO toothbrush can rotate between several different cleaning settings (sensitive, whiten, gum care, intense, and super sensitive) and times how long you spend brushing your teeth in a single session. Its goal is for you to brush for two whole minutes every single time and will "score" your brushing time with a frowny or smiley face, shown on the brush's LED screen. In other words, this toothbrush will judge you, and that's the exact type of motivation someone like me needs to keep their situation together.

But what really takes this product over the top is its artificial intelligence and the accompanying Oral-B mobile app. When you connect your toothbrush to the app via Bluetooth, you unlock your own at-home brushing coach, which will delve out (sometimes harsh) criticism just like your dentist probably does. When you click the app's "brush now" button, hit the power button on your iO, and start brushing, something magical (and I'll admit, almost creepy) happens.
Your phone will show you a diagram of your mouth with real-time reactions to your brushing. As you clean different parts of your teeth, those sections of the diagram will gradually change from blue to white. And if the brush senses you're applying too much pressure, the diagram will light up red (as will the light at the top of the toothbrush). You can stop brushing at any time, but the goal is to reach "perfect coverage" while you're brushing, and the app will tell you exactly when you've reached that.

Post-brush, the app will give you an overall performance breakdown (and might even award you medals for achieving different things or simply being a consistent brusher). It'll also ask you if your gums bled at all so it can keep track of your gum health. If that weren't enough assistance in the brushing department, this app also offers "journeys" and challenges that focus on things like fresh breath, fighting plaque, braces care, teeth whitening, and more. It'll even compile all your brushing time and tell you the exact moment your brush head should be replaced based on that.
If this toothbrush could become an actual person, it'd probably turn out to be a hard core drill sergeant who has no patience for imperfection. This brush has very high standards, but you can't deny how motivating it is. You could also see the iO and Oral-B app more like a peppy third-grade teacher who gives gold star stickers to their high-achieving students — you always feel accomplished at the end of their class if you simply pay attention.
Whichever way you spin it, one thing's for sure: this toothbrush will actually make you want to brush your teeth every day (and do it effectively). Whether that's because you like the feeling of accomplishment or are just scared of being judged by an inanimate object (guilty as charged) is up to you. That, my friends, is why we're declaring the Oral-B iO toothbrush a Best of Beauty 2020 breakthrough winner.

- “McDonald’s does a better job for one-third of the price.”
- Poor quality service. We had to wait a good 30 minutes before someone noticed us and the restaurant was practically empty at that Time . The food was mediocre too.Never recommending this to anybody
- Food was disgusting and inedible. Pork dried out, couldn't cut the crayfish tail. My daughter's risotto was gritty, probably from unwashed leek. Xmas lunch was just so disappointing. We will remember it for all the wrong reasons.
- Service through the drive through appalling, had a 20 minute wait for a simple coffee, staff are inept and the manager is clueless !
