Punctuation Focus - Internal Thoughts
Example: “I lied,” Charles thought, “but maybe she will forgive me.”
Notice that quotation marks and other punctuation are used as if the character had spoken aloud.
You may also use italics without quotation marks for direct internal dialogue.
Example: I lied, Charles thought, but maybe she will forgive me.
Indirect internal dialogue refers to a character expressing a thought in the third person (the third person singular is he or she, the plural is they) and is not set off with either italics or quotation marks.
Example: Bev wondered why Charles would think that she would forgive him so easily.
The sense of the sentence tells us that she did not think these exact words.

Writing Task:
This narrative is told in first person point of view from Sam. We might describe them as bossy, strong willed, feels frustrated with the inexperience of others and experienced in this role. They are accompanied by Bella and Ty. Bella is more experienced and Sam trusts her, despite making mistakes in the past. Ty is less experienced and feels eager, annoyed and perhaps impulsive. Sam needs to keep the team together.
Write the story from if you think Bella was in charge, or Ty was in charge. Write on a pages document and upload it to seesaw once complete. You have 5 minutes to plan and 35 minutes to write.
Bella example:
Unwelcome lights between twitching curtains caught my eye... was someone home? I've make a mistake? "Impossible!" I thought to myself. I couldn't let the team down, not again. Our mission depended on it. I would need to improvise.
Sam:
Unwelcome lights between twitching curtains caught my eye...was someone home? My heart started to race and I felt my temperature start to rise. Bella had got the intelligence on the empty house wrong, again! I was a fool to trust her with such an important task. The Team were relying on me, and I'll be dammed if I let Bella ruin our mission, I've come too far! I'm no novice, I'm the leader of this team. I created a plan.
