I'd prefer to be rich without the fame. I wouldn't want to have my life under the microscope, with my every word and action being broadcast publicly and analyzed to death.
Being rich would be awesome, no doubt, but I don't need all of the things that I could buy with extra money. What I wouldn't be able to replace is the feeling that people care about what I'm doing. Obviously, there are a lot of different kinds of fame and a lot of different ways to be famous, so I'd like to add a little asterik to my answer that states that I am expecting a positive kind of fame.
Fame is not it's cracked-up to be. It has it's real downers. People often expect you to be a certain way because that's how they've created you in their mind. Then, when you're not, they can get pretty bent over it. Your privacy is gone. Depending on how famous you are, it can be like being under a microscope.
Money is one thing: Freedom. It lets you live the way you want and gets you out from being under most of the thumbs that people without it have to live under. Fame has it's rewards, it's great for people to love what you do, but it has its costs as well. Money: Well, it just makes everything a whole lot easier.
